This song has been on repeat in my head for the past couple days. I'll tell you why...
Last weekend was a pretty epic one for me. My mom, sister, and I met up for a women's weekend retreat a long time in the making. Just the three ladies and about 15 other of our closest lady strangers.
Stepping away from household responsibilities (eek!), business responsibilities (eek!), and investing the time to be away from it all.
And in taking those steps away, I am not only refreshed and rekindled with my mom and my sister, but I longed for my home and my family. In taking steps away from what I look at so closely every day, I am grateful. Grateful for what I often take for granted. Grateful for my familiar and cozy bed, for my husband's strength and groundedness, for my kids' enthusiasm, for my collection of mugs, and for my keyboard. In stepping away, I am grateful for my life.
I think we all make a lot of excuses for what we cannot do. I know I used to. A LOT. Because I was afraid. Because I felt guilty. Because I thought, " Who am I to .... fill in the blank?"
Something might happen, money may run out, I may not be in control of what I am used to. People may judge me.
But in letting go, we are free. Free from controlling the outcome. And I think, (because, I mean I don't know a ton for sure), but i think, that when we follow our joy and our hearts, even if its a stretch or even if its a little uncomfortable, everything will be more than alright. In fact, I think that is the path to your freedom and to your soul. To your light within.
I feel it. Do you?
Now, you may say. I can't take a retreat with my mother and my sister for a whole gosh darn weekend?! Heck, I don't even have a sister... now what?!
But, what can you do? What small step or big leap can you put in the books or do on a whim that your heart is yearning for? That you positively know will bring you joy?
I can't wait to hear all about it.
