How many times a day do you hear a voice in the back of your head tell you, "I'm just not good enough", "I wish I was thinner", "I'll be happy when..." "I wish I was better"? I know that many of us can be hard on ourselves at times, letting the voices in our heads clutter our lives, add useless negativity and stress, and more chaos. I definitely feel this from time to time. I have big dreams of running a successful business, helping women discover their potential , creating community, finding more family fun time, connecting with my husband, and the list goes on and on. And I have to admit, sometimes, amongst my day to day ... I feel like I'm not quite measuring up or keeping up with it all.
But then, I take a moment to pause. And then I see. I see how far I've come. I see how much I am proud of; how much I have accomplished. And I know that where I am right now, is exactly where I am suppose to be. And that place doesn't have to be the CEO of a major corporation, the world's most perfect mom-wife combo, or anything else for that matter. Sometimes when I see other people, other women doing amazing things, sometimes I get down on myself because I feel subpar. "I want to be that amazing!" "I want to be like her!" that voice in the back of my heads shouts out. But you know what? I'm not. I'm not those people I see on social media or read about in magazine or anyone else... I'm just me. I'm just me, doing my best, listening to what drives me, listening to what makes my life better, and forging on the best way I know how. And thats more than just just ok, thats pretty darn amazing. And to those women I see doing amazing, inspiring things... rock on, ladies.
To be honest, I'm tired of women thinking they are subpar. I'm tired of the doubt and I am ready for the self-acceptance. Because, as women, as caregivers, as businesswomen, as friends, as sisters, as partners, as moms, and stepmoms... we are a heck of a lot stronger and more impressive than we think. We are anything but ok and ordinary. There will always be things we want to improve on, there will always be goals we are reaching for. But, we have to continually search and be open to ways we can support and love ourselves through the process....in this moment. At my newest Nourish 360 group in Carmel, I am continually inspired by the women who show up. They show up with honesty, they show up willing to welcome positive change, they show up vulnerable yet strong. They are honest and they are real. They want to feel better and thrive and they want others in our program to do the same. They are taking a deeper look at where they are on their journey, and saying they want to more forward, make progress, and be an active participant in making their lives more vibrant. Its pretty darn incredible.
So what does all of this have to do with a flippin green tea latte? Well, I've learned that part of realizing how truly great you, is to give yourself permission to enjoy. Give yourself a break. Give yourself a moment, with a cup of tea in hand and just enjoy that simple time, just for you to breathe, sip, and enjoy. It doesn't have to be a green tea latte, but I love them, so I am sharing with you how I like to take a pause and enjoy.
Wherever you are in your journey, know that its pretty darn incredible. Try not to measure yourself up to a friend, neighbor, or incredibly successful tv star/businesswomen/family member/ friend or whoever you think has it all figured out. Because you, my friend are real and incredible. You are inspirational by owning your journey, your path, and where you are right now. Make space in your day to go sit down somewhere cozy, take a much deserved break, and enjoy who you are , where your journey has landed you, and where you are headed... cup of tea in hand.
