There are some places you travel, that just feel like home.
Your shoulders relax into place, you start to recognize the small details all around you, your eyes open a little wider, everything seems a bit more alive.
For me, this place has been Paris.
I was lucky enough to have been able to travel for 12 days away with my husband from our routine, our work, our life. To be together and hold hands and explore the city that changed my life forever when I lived and worked there, now, 8 years ago. To study the passers by and speak the beautiful language (ok, it wasn't that beautiful when I tried to speak it) and to consume the culture and absorb it all.
I was able to share with my husband my enthusiasm for this beautiful city. For its architecture, history, lighting, food, style, walkable streets, and culture. I relaxed back into a place I have not felt for some time. A place of falling in love with where I am and allowing myself the space enjoy. Allowing myself not to cook dinner or pick up dishes or rush here or fulfill orders there.
Seeing the beauty in another place, helps me to see a beauty in myself. Learning from another culture how to walk differently in my daily life wakes me up. It makes me question what I could do a little differently and embrace a little more and explore a little deeper.
I am thankful.
Its what traveling does for so many. And I think we all have some places out there that feel like home. That make you well up with emotion just from noticing the details on a door front. That help you stop to actually enjoy the moment and put down that gosh. darn. phone. That help you breathe in the air and actually notice what everything smells and tastes and feels like.
Lets go find those places.
For me it has been Paris that has made the largest impact. Maybe for you its further; or maybe its just outside your own town.
And then we come back home reignited and alive for ourselves and for the people around us. I have found that exploring the outside world has been the practice in helping me explore within and awaken my soul.
Where are you exploring this summer to help you feel alive?
I am so excited to be hosting a Women's Summer Solstice Gathering this June at Happy Girl Kitchen. To make space to nourish ourselves, dream big, and support each other to explore, awaken, and go after wherever we feel called. For more details, click here.
